Introduction..
Your country has been taken over by an evil force, your King and Queen have been captured and its your task to rid your nation of these monsters and free your King and Queen.

The Game..
In Golden Axe you have the choice of playing as one of three characters, they are: a Barbarian, Amazon or an Elf. Each character has its own unique features, the Elf holds and Axe, The Barbarian a sword and so on. Each different character can use magic, however, your magical powers vary depending on which character you pick. Once your quest begins you will encounter various creatures/monsters. Using your main weapon and or magic, your mission is to battle through the various levels in search of your King and Queen. During your mission you will meet various enemies, these include: Dragons, Skeletons, Knights and more. There are creatures in the game which will help you on your quest, one of these includes a dragon which shoots fireballs at your enemies.

At the end of each level or sometimes during the levels you will encounter little Elf's carrying sacks, they will be dressed in either blue or green robes. If you hit the blue Elf with your weapon he will drop a bottle of magic, if you hit a green one then he will drop some meat to give you health. You have different levels of magic - A power-bar determines how much magic you have. The more bottles you collect the more powerful your magic becomes. At the end of each level, generally, you will encounter a boss.

Overall...
Golden Axe is a great side scrolling beat-em-up. The graphics are very good and the music and sounds fit in well with the game. It's not a particularly long game, but it is a very good game to play. I first played this in the Arcades when I was about 10 years old, I kept putting my pocket money in because I enjoyed it so much! Luckily someone joined me and we battled it out together.
